Introductory Jewellery Making (8wk course)

This hands-on jewellery making course for absolute beginners provides a solid grounding in essential silversmithing skills and design. Jewellery making techniques, tools, materials and other fundamentals are covered each week through talks, demonstrations and practical exercises. Students walk away with a piece/s that they’ve designed and made from scratch and the knowledge and skills to continue making at home.

Jewellery making subjects include:

– making shapes and forms
– saw-piercing and cutting
– understanding and working with different materials
– using tools and equipment
– hot and cold joining
– setting stones
– applying textures
– filing, sanding, polishing
– designing and solving problems
– working safely and setting up at home

The follow on from this course is ‘Beginner 2’ which is held on Thursday nights from 6-9pm.
